Colville Extension

FRTEP - 1862

The Washington State University (WSU)
Colville Reservation Extension Office has a foundation of funding from
USDA and WSU Administrative monies each year with additional Tribal
support of close to $100,000 cash plus office space, .6FTE secretary,
phones, etc and private donor money ($25,000). These partnered funds
allow the office to carry out enhanced extension educational
programming in Agriculture & Natural Resources including Bioagents
for Invasive Weeds, Traditional 4-H, Family and Consumer Sciences, and
4-H Challenge on the Colville Reservation. These projects are developed
under guidance of the Tribal Advisory Committee, and administrated by
the WSU Ferry County Extension office Director, Dan Fagerlie with the
EIRP Agent, serving as the Team Leader at the Reservation office. The
program is built around responding to needs of reservation agricultural
producers, land managers, and youth.

Traditional 4-H Club programming and education continues to impact
youth across the reservation in building life long skills,
self-efficiency, and responsibility.

Program delivery includes:

  1. Horse Education, care, nutrition, handling, and safety
  2. Camp programming: Natural Resource Camp and Horse Camp
  3. Livestock Showmanship in both large and small animal care and handling
  4. After school programming in plant sciences and gardening
  5. Youth leadership programs
  6. Involvement and participation in local county fairs
  7. Various volunteer leader trainings
